“Can we see a full wedding gallery?”

Ask any potential photographer for a few recent wedding galleries to get an idea of how many images they deliver, their editing style, and the kind of photographs they capture throughout the day. This gives you a better idea of their skill level, as opposed to seeing just a few curated images. Make sure that the photos are from a REAL wedding, not a styled shoot!

“How many weddings have you photographed?”

While the exact number of weddings doesn’t matter necessarily, it is important to have a photographer who is familiar with the pace and structure of a wedding day.

My Answer:

I don’t know the number off the top of my head, but I average about 15+ weddings per year and have been photographing weddings for over 6 years. So the answer is: a lot!

 

“Do you have insurance?”

Knowing that your photographer carries liability insurance ensures that there is protection if an accident happens while they are shooting. Having insurance can also be a good indicator that they are an established business, not just a hobbyist. Plus, your venue may require that your photographer provides proof of insurance for your wedding day.

“How would you describe your photography style?”

For this question, I like to emphasize two categories of “photography style”.

First is their editing style, which should coincide with the images in the galleries you are sent. Are their photographs light and airy, dark and moody, documentary or editorial? Second is their shooting style on your wedding day. Are they more hands on with providing direction and guidance, or are they a fly on the wall throughout the day?

Both are important parts of your entire wedding photography experience!

My overall style as a photographer is very documentary-based. I aim to create images that feel just like the moment felt. Throughout your wedding day I do my best allow things to unfold naturally with minimal posing. My editing style is meant to be realistic, natural and rich.
